Some people have a preconceived opinion and think shibari is degrading and abusive to women. Because they say — it involves tying up women with rope. Really? To those with that opinion, I say, please watch this video. It is a shibari performance by Stefano Laforgia and Miss Prohibited, at LegARTI, an event organized by Stefano in Rome Italy.
In this video, not only can you see some techniques that are used to create shibari positions, but you will also see how two people, both male AND female, enjoy their shibari experience.

Notice the subtle change in the expression on her face as she begins to enjoy her shibari experience. Here is a screen print from the video. Her expression is common in a shibari experience. It is caused by the release of endorphins, which creates a condition similar to the runner’s high many athletes enjoy.
Did you notice the gentle kiss Stefano placed on her toes at 11:05 into the video? And, the way he gently kisses and caresses her from time to time throughout the video.
Stefano and his model, Miss Prohibited, have a special and loving interpersonal relationship outside of their shibari experiences. But there is also a very special bond that typically develops between any two people when they share a shibari experience. It is very nice experience and relationship for both the rigger and the model.
Shibari is enjoyed by people around the world. They enjoy both creating visual art with it as well as the actual experience of the rigging.
Shibari requires skill, trust, and respect. It is a beautiful visual and performance art form.
To those who still think shibari is abusive or degrading to women, I say abandon your preconceived opinion, open your mind, and watch this video again.
