This is not a classic shibari image. Both bodyscape and abstract images are two of my favorite styles in fine art and creative photography. In this photograph, I’ve included shibari rigging along with a bodyscape, and focused lighting to create an abstract type image. My very attractive and talented model, Lisa, has helped me create contemporary shibari art. Continue reading

Lew Rubens presents “Dream Capture”
This is not a classic shibari image. Lew Rubens (from Orlando, Florida) used his shibari rigging skills to encapsulate and suspend his pretty model in a circular web of rope. Peter Claver (from Toronto, Canada) did an excellent job of photographing the pose. This is another example of people from all over the world having fun with shibari and pushing the envelope on contemporary shibari art. Continue reading
Zee Maitri presents “Clover”
In this image, the artist, Zee Maitri, uses his light painting skills to highlight and profile his model who is suspended in a traditional shibari bamboo tripod suspension frame. His beautiful model is Clover, who is also an accomplished photographer. She, too, is displaying some of her art in our Exhibit. This is another excellent example of contemporary shibari art. Continue reading
Clover and WykD_Dave present “Desire”
Classic shibari rigging, a nice pose and pretty model, excellent photography — these are the elements in this image that create beautiful shibari art. Clover has titled this image, Desire”, and leaves the interpretation of her title to your imagination. Both the pose and this photograph are simple and well done. Continue reading
Alberto Lisi aka Hikari Kesho presents “Araki Tribute”
In this image, the soft skin and smooth curves of the beautiful model are contrasted with the straight lines and hard texture of the rope and supporting tree. The pretty colors of the model’s skin and pastel kimono combine very nicely with the natural colors of a beautiful spring time outdoor setting in Italy. This is another example of excellent shibari art created by a very accomplished and successful rigger and photographer, Alberto Lisi. Continue reading
Noble Manque presents “Released”
The expression on this pretty model’s face is typical of many models after they enjoy a shibari experience. It’s a result of the endorphin release they experience. They enjoy a feeling similar to the “runner’s high” enjoyed by many athletes. While this image includes a beautiful model, excellent ropework, and nice lighting in a technically very well done photograph, for me, personally, the beauty in this image is contained in the peaceful and pleasurable expression on the model’s face. I smile every time I see that kind of expression. Continue reading
MaillerPhong presents “Effortless”
This very nice black and white photograph features a very pretty nude model leaning against a wall, illuminated by natural light from a window. This pose and lighting is not uncommon for many fine art photographers. But, this image contains the addition of nice rope decoration on the model constructed with shibari techniques. The artist, MaillerPhong, has demonstrated time and time again his unique and special ability to construct intricate and beautiful rope patterns on his gorgeous models. He creates images that move beyond typical fine art photographs. Continue reading
Google Analytics reports show many people are interested in shibari art.
There are many people around the world who are interested in shibari art. In mid December, I started posting pictures that will be displayed by the Artists in the Art of Contemporary Shibari Exhibit. These are the Google Analytics reports for my website for the 3 months from December through February 2012. They show the number of visitors and pageviews have increased dramatically, month by month, and continue to trend higher. Continue reading
CharlyB presents “Me n Tomi X”
This is a signature position by CharlyB. It’s another example of people having fun with shibari. This very nice black and white photograph includes the elements to make good shibari art – a pretty model, excellent ropework, the contrast of the rope against the smooth curves and soft skin of the model, and great lighting. And, it is a cool self portrait. Continue reading
Jim Duvall presents “2011-9649”
The photographic style in this image reminds me of pin up pictures. Could this be a “shibari pin up”? This image also has the long straight lines of the rough textured rope contrasting with the smooth curves and soft skin of this pretty model, suspended in a graceful pose. This nice black and white image is another good example of combining a beautiful model with excellent rigging and photography to create contemporary shibari art. Continue reading
